SILK
SILK IS A PRECIOUS FIBER, EXTREMELY FINE, SOFT AND STRONG.
FOR US EVERYTHING REVOLVES AROUND THIS CONCEPT AND FROM HERE COMES OUR INSPIRATION IN EVERY CHOICE.
THE SILK ROAD AND ITS ORIGINS DATING BACK TO THE 2ND CENTURY BC DURING THE HAN DYNASTY IN CHINA
In southern China, along the Yangtze River, early communities cultivated mulberry trees and developed the first silk reeling techniques. Silk soon became a material of great importance for clothing and ceremonial use, marking the beginning of its long cultural and economic journey.
Silk is a natural protein fiber produced by Bombyx mori, a lepidopteran specifically bred for the silk industry. The production of the fiber takes place in the final stage of the larval life, when the silkworm builds the cocoon, within which it completes its biological cycle.
The silk filament is generated in two specialized secretory glands, called sericteries, located beneath the digestive system. In these glands, fibroin is initially formed, which represents the structural core of the fiber. Subsequently, the fibroin is coated with sericin, a natural substance that provides adhesion and protection.
Through a continuous process, perfectly controlled by the movement of the silkworm, the two elementary filaments produced by the glands merge to form a single thread, known as raw silk filament. This continuous thread, extremely fine and strong, constitutes the basis of silk processing and the first stage of the industrial transformation of silk.
